World’s Easiest Veggie Burgers

If you want something other than the traditional hamburger on your cake but do not know where to start, there are many vegetable burger options to consider. Not all burger options offered at health food stores are vegan, so if you do not want milk in your burger, check out the ingredient list. The amount of fat in commercial vegetable burgers also varies widely, so be wary of low-fat options.

Depending on the recipe you choose, vegan burgers can include mushrooms, protein, vegetables, whole grains, oatmeal or even beans as an integral part of this recipe. Soy protein, which provides a chewy texture, is also often used. Although vegetable burgers usually start out in the form of pasta, they can be mashed and served as “meat” in meat sauces and soups. Vegetable burger recipes can also be made into individual “meat” breads or added to a pepper or Sloppy Joe recipe.

Although vegetable burgers are generally lower in calories and fat than non-vegetable hamburgers, they can be fat from cheese, eggs or oil. Even high-fat varieties tend to have less fat than lean ground beef, which generally gets more than half of its calories from fat.

Vegetable burgers are a better source of fiber than burgers or other meat substitutes. While meat is not fiber, most vegetable burgers provide 3-4 grams of fiber at a time. Vegetable burgers generally do not contain cholesterol (unless the recipe contains dairy ingredients). In contrast, a 3.5-ounce hamburger made from lean ground beef will contain up to 90 milligrams of cholesterol. Depending on the recipe, vegetable burgers can also contain large amounts of beneficial substances such as iron, protein or even vitamin B-12. For all their good points, burgers burgers have one caveat: they are generally saltier than ground beef and may also need more oil to fry without sticking.

For a quick burger, one of the best options I found was the Cedar Lake Quik Burger out of the can. Cedar Lake Vegeburger is another delicious option. Just open the cans at both ends and push the contents in like a sausage. Cut the contents carefully (to avoid cracking) and squeeze it in a little olive oil. Both of the above options are vegan and both are delicious on a hamburger bun serving Mayo, ketchup, salad, pickle relish and a slice of fresh tomato.

If you want to make your own burger burger, try the following delicious recipes:

Amazing Walnut Burger

Ingredients

1 cup walnuts

3 cups brown rice

2 cups hard tofu, drain and grind

1 cup dry bread flour

2 tablespoons dried basil

1 tablespoon thyme

1 tablespoon arrowroot or cornstarch

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 tablespoon soy sauce

Directions

1. Bake the walnuts in the oven at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes. Set aside.

2. Mix the remaining ingredients in a medium-sized bowl, making sure the cornstarch is well mixed (not frozen).

3. Grind the chilled walnuts into a fine paste and add to the mixture above.

4. Mix with your hands until it mixes best. If necessary, add enough water to have a consistency that is not too dry but holds together well.

5. Spray the cookies and make your own burger using a small canister as a guide.

6. Bake on the spray at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes, then turn the other side brown.

7. Serve with a hamburger bun, cabbage, olives, lettuce, ketchup and anything else that sounds good!

The recipe can also be pressed into a pan and baked into bread. Leave to cool before cutting.
