July 4th is the biggest holiday of the summer, and while some of us think of Independence Day, we think of fried chicken, salad, potatoes and apple pie. While fried chicken, salad, potatoes and apple pie are the food most people like to think of standing on the hot stove on the morning of July 4th is often unbearable and go buy your chicken at a fast food. Mind. Places can be less than enjoyable. What follows is a variation on the traditional fried chicken.

The recipe included here for Hawaiian chicken starts out in a similar way to fried chicken, but the minimum time is spent frying because it only needs to be browned on the stove. The rest of the cooking is done in the oven and this can be done either day or the night before and the chicken can be reheated in minutes in either the microwave or the regular oven. Great ingredients for this dish are corn on the cob, freshly seasoned and / or red and white potato salad, homemade biscuits and of course homemade apple pie or ice cream. One of the great things about the following recipes is that they are easy to make in large quantities and can be refrigerated for a day or two until ready to use.

Hawaiian Chicken

(4 – 6 servings)

1 whole fried chicken

1 cup flour

1/3 cup salad oil

1 tsp. Salt

tsp. Pepper

C. Sugar

2 tablespoons. Corn flour

c.cider vinegar

1 tablespoon soy sauce

tsp. Ginger

1 cube chicken bouillon

1 large green pepper, cut into circles

1 (1 lb., 4 oz.) Can cut pineapple

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Wash, dry and coat the chicken with flour. Heat oil in a large saucepan until boiling. Sprinkle the chicken on both sides and remove as browned in a shallow frying pan with the skin pieces on top. Sprinkle with salt and pepper if desired.

To make the sauce, pour pineapple syrup or water into 2 cups. Add enough water to make 1 cup. In a medium saucepan combine the sugar, pineapple flour, vinegar, soy sauce, ginger and bouillon cubes. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly; Boil for 2 minutes and then pour over the chicken. Bake without cover for 30 minutes. Add pineapple slices and green pepper rings. Bake for an additional 30 minutes or until chicken is tender.

Each chicken portion can be replaced. If using breast, shorten baking time to about 30 minutes. The legs and thighs will take the time set in the formula above.

If the barbecue is more your style, it can be kept simple. Try eating your hamburger by mixing the meat with a packet of onion soup mix, or dipping your chicken parts or your toppings in a garlic-enhanced Balsamic salad dressing. You can use your remaining salad dressing in small quantities by adding wine, soy sauce or lemon juice. The flavors will always blend and enhance the taste of your food.

The easiest way for barbecue is to use the indirect method. This way you can put the food to cook and do other things while the meat is cooking. You do not have to stand on charcoal, and this reduces the chances of burning food. To use the indirect method, you need a barbecue with a lid. If you are using a two-sided gas stove, light one side, let it burn on high, and then place the food on the side with no light. If there is too much food for one layer, just put two layers of food. If the food has more than one layer, it will take more time to cook and it is good to change the top layer to the bottom by half of the cooking time.

Indirect methods work well for foods such as chicken, ribs or grilled. To cook a hamburger or hot dog, the traditional method of cooking it directly on a heat source is still the best and fastest way. You do not want to be frustrated if you cannot get the right pitch so invest in a good capo.

If your get-together is an instant affair, the simplest thing is to buy ready-made meals made from a nearby market or deli. Fortunately, today there are many markets that specialize in ready-made food, which is great for parties. No matter what kind of food you prepare for your summer activities, do not forget to try to keep it as simple as possible so that you enjoy the opportunity as well.
