Zambia Bird Watching & Game Viewing Treat

Travel tips for bird lovers and safari enthusiasts!

Zambia has it all: incredible wildlife, beautiful scenery and the home of the most famous holiday destination in the whole world! From unique and spectacular Victoria Falls to some of the best safari holidays, such as South Luangwa National Park, Kariba Lake and Kafue. By choosing this tour, you will be sure to embark on an adventure that will be loved for the rest of your life!

With about 740 species of birds, this country is just Eden Park for bird lovers! The large combination of miombo forest, grassland, dambos, forest and wetland is ideal land which ensures a good opportunity for birds throughout the year. In fact, Zambia is believed to have one of the highest bird species in Africa!

In this 11-day Safari and Bird Watching Extraordinaire Combo, you will travel across the country and have the privilege of experiencing the richness of wildlife. Expect to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, red tigers … and more!

Ready for your life? Zambia has arrived …

Daily schedule:

Day 1Arrive at Lusaka International and transfer to Chaminuka Game Reserve Lodge outside the city. After a hearty lunch, you have a choice between two activities: an afternoon around the reserve (which offers games, hiking and horseback safari) or a trip to the Kalimba crocodile farm. However, expect to see lots of birds and wildlife (Chaminuka has over 300 species of birds) or very hungry crocodiles! 🙂

Day 2: Breakfast at Chaminuka and drive to Lower Zambezi National Park in front of the famous Mana Pools Reserve in Zimbabwe. Stay at the Sausage Tree Camp and take a canoe ride in the afternoon. Incredible photography opportunities for birds and close encounters with crocodiles and thirsty animals along the river! Interested birds: Meyer trumpet horn, Lilian and Narina Trogon!

Day 3: Play the first game and transfer to the shores of Lake Kariba. Afternoon Sundowner Cruise around the lake Drinks and light snacks included. Overnight at Spurwing Island (Zimbabwe). Birds must see: of course, geese, monkeys, great eagles, the African Darter and the Gymnogene (African Harrier-Hawk). Also watch out for the vast wildlife of the area where elephants, herds, crocodiles, buffalo and aquatic animals are kings. !

Day 4Play a morning game in Matusadona National Park and head south to reach “The Smoke That Thunders”: Victoria Falls, one of the world’s greatest natural wonders! Visiting the waterfall and staying at the Royal Livingstone Hotel (5 Star British Old Style; was there, simply unusual) known as the “Old Lady of the Falls!” Amazing views of Vic Falls and private streets just 10 minutes from paradise. Make sure you have your raincoat ready as it is likely to be a “wet” experience! 😉

Day 5Wake up at 6am for a short tour of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, ideal for rhinos. After a typical “bacon and egg” breakfast you will head to Zambia’s oldest and largest national park: Kafue! Truly a bird-watching paradise for about 481 species, from waterfowl to terrestrial specimens.

Accommodation at Hippo Lodge in a shady cottage overlooking the Kafue River. Great game viewing in the Busanga lowlands, thriving with red lechwe, Puku, solitary and rare sitatunga, roan monkeys and sable antelope, zebras and dozens of other fascinating animals. Cats such as lions and bears are also common! Interesting bird species: Fulleborn endangered cranes, African birds, owls, fishing pels, bees, bohms and half-king fish.

Day 6: All day in Kafue National Park. Birding Safari and river boating included in the program. Game drives and safari rides are also a possibility. Want to dive into the vibrant hot springs in the Jacuzzi with its unique sand bottom? Everything is possible at Hippo Lodge! Your wishes are our order !!!

Day 7: Play until 9am Breakfast at Hippo Lodge and departure to Lochinvar National Park. Lochinvar has an outstanding bird vision with over 420 species of birds over 428 square kilometers! This is almost a bird per square kilometer!

Overnight at Lechwe Lowland Camp. Excursions include a special Mokoro (Canoe) excursion, Kafue lechwe search and sitatungas! Beware of birds: animals with pink and white backs, African skiers, Baillon cranes, osprey, secretary birds, etc.

Day 8: First departure by charter flight to Bangweulu swamp in the north of the country! This area is home to endangered black tigers and the last habitat of the great Shoebill, a large bird. Like a crow. Your overnight stay will be Shoebill Island Camp, which offers panoramic views of the floodplain!

9th, 10th and 11th: Finally, our final destination will take you to my favorite Zambian destination: South Luang Prabang National Park! In fact, many experts consider it one of the top wildlife sanctuaries in the world!

Luxurious accommodation Mfuwe Lodge! Each lodge has its own bathroom and has a luxurious roof overlooking one of the lakes. The lodge also has an open boma for special dinners and a fire area for a cool evening chat under the starry African sky!

Common birds of the area: yellow deer and grasshoppers, open locusts, black-headed crows, earth horns, hammers and bee-eating bees!

Activities:

Arrival: Light lunch, afternoon nap and night driving game. Luang Va Valley is famous for its amazing and busy animal life after dark. Keep an eye out for exotic species such as the Life African, the Burgundy and the Bush! Also of interest is the breeding of hippos, hyenas and leopards (great areas for these easy-to-understand cats)!

Day 10: First game, lots of breakfast and safari walk around the guesthouse area. Second night driving is encouraged, though it depends on you!

Day 11: Packing and Traveling to Lusaka International Airport!
