Men’s Fashion Trends

One of the great things about men’s fashion is that while trends come and go like the polyester suit of the 70s and the punk look of the 80s, it always seems to look pretty and masculine. 2011 really brought a significant revival of this classic look. In both high fashion and pervasive catalogs you will find men dressed in chic styles and natural fabrics. The grunge look of the 90’s is out, and the well-groomed look of the past is back. Along these lines, here are three of my favorite trends in menswear coming up for fall 2011.

Colored yarn – We tend to think of blue jeans all the time. But colored jeans are a great trend for fall and a great way to wear your casual jeans. It is now accepted that you can wear white jeans even after Labor Day. Just anchor with dark pieces like gray or brown shoes and belts and a navy sports jacket. Gray jeans are a great look for fall. You can pair it with other cool colors like blue and white striped shirt, camel leather shoes and blue cotton jacket to look fresh. Clean and quiet. Or for something a little bolder, try a pair of golden yellow jeans. Just remember this is a bright color and the rest of your outfit should be in a neutral shade like orange or navy blue.

“Crazy Man” Fashion-Inspired Since the TV show “Mad Men” became very popular, many different clothing companies have introduced tailored lines and forms inspired by the pre-hippie era of the early 1960s. I personally am looking forward to Banana Republic’s “Mad Men” inspired men line that will be introduced this fall. The reason this special line works so well is that it offers a slight overhaul of the classic and past look. This is the key to looking appropriate, unlike those who dress in traditional imitations. The main pieces to take away the “Mad Men” inspired look are a slim fit suit, a T-shirt with a collar, long striped pants, a vest and a waistcoat. If you are attending a formal event, a classic black silk belt is the key and for everyday wear a beautiful silk belt with a necklace is appropriate.

Normal appearance of dress- Do I mean “dress for a reason”? Well, it’s different from what you think of dressing straight. For a simple look, start with a simple foundation. This could be a chinos that fit snugly and a polo shirt or a cotton sweater made of silk. Then add an item that you normally just think of as a dress like a well-fitting sports jacket. For a more casual look, try a pair of black washed jeans and a down jacket with a vest from three sets of You. Or black denim pants with a plain white T-shirt and a tuxedo, you can also make any casual outfit even more appealing with interesting accessories like a classic pocket watch or a nice pair of oxford leather shoes. Kanye West, Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake and Pharell Williams Do not mix coats or sportswear with shorts when dressing casually.
