Universities That Offer Art Classes in Los Angeles

Art classes in Los Angeles are usually offered by means of a four-year college or master’s program. Many colleges and universities, including the University of California-Los Angeles and the University of Southern California, offer art classes in the Los Angeles area.

California State University – Los Angeles is part of the CSU School System, the largest university system in the country. The four-year public university offers a variety of undergraduate and advanced degree programs through the arts program.

1) Bachelor of Arts. This course allows college students to focus on one of six areas of study, including animation, the arts of the past, art education, and studio art. Despite the fact that college students focus on one part of the arts, the comprehensive program allows them all to take classes that use a variety of artistic means. The program includes the basics of 2D painting, sculpture, painting, life compositions as well as modern art.

2) Master of Arts. This is a degree in art education, art history, art studio, graphic design or even fashion and textiles. The two-year program provides college students with advanced lessons based on the basic work offered in the undergraduate program. Classes include the development of artistic ideas, world art, color theory and artistic perception, drawing and critique.

3) Master of Fine Arts. This course, which is offered with a focus on graphic design or art studio, offers courses that discuss the practical application of artistic techniques. Compared to the MA program, the MFA course allows students to gain more experience with a specific subject. The program involves processing digital images, collisions and solutions in advanced drawing art design as well as typing.

The University of Southern California is the state’s oldest exclusive research university. More than fifty percent of USC’s 35,000 college students are enrolled at the graduate or professional level. The University offers degree programs through 17 educational institutions and colleges, including the USC Roski School of Fine Arts.

1) Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art. This 4-year course provides students with an in-depth understanding of the performing arts. The recruiting program allows students to explore a wide range of arts, while the introductory course introduces students to art history, theory, and concepts of practice. The program has the basics of visual design knowledge, contemporary art, theory along with basic drawing.

2) Bachelor of Fine Arts. This provides a more intensive curriculum with a focus on specific areas. Students participate in a variety of art studio classes and explore artistic talents through workshops and internships with community programs, museums and related organizations. Courses in the BFA program include sculpture, critique, drawing, storytelling, digital production and 3D concepts.

3) Master of Fine Arts. College students in this program learn about advanced skills through studio training, lectures, workshops and community art projects. Each year, only 16 students are accepted into the MFA course, so students receive a lot of attention from teachers. MFA requires 48 credits and can be completed in 2 years. Students can take courses in the study of art interaction, art theory and critique, and individual study. Students are required to attend seminars as well as art sessions throughout the course and complete a second year thesis project.

4) Master of Public Art Studies. This course specializes in the role of the arts in communities and public organizations. Students in this course deal with art from a cultural, social and historical perspective and learn to analyze public art concepts. Special courses include contemporary art classes in public contexts and art trends in public places. USC also offers a two-degree program for people interested in studying public art and urban planning.
