Here I Am – Three Very Simple Words – But They Can Mean So Much When Sincerely Spoken

HERE I AM. Three simple words – “Here I am” – and that means – I am available – I am ready to listen – I am ready and willing to hear what YOU have to say to me – and what YOU have to say to me say

When we speak these words, we never know where they will lead – or what the consequences will be – yes, even in 2021.

When we hear God’s voice – when we know that God is speaking to me – do we do something to attract my attention – take hold of my life – and my talents and gifts?

What happens when I say to God, “Here I am”?

1 – I may make a sacrifice that I never thought I could make. It might not be the best start to a message – it might start with a blessing – but it’s a blessing! Look again at Abraham – After a while God tested Abraham. He said to him: “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Then God said: “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah.” Sacrifice him there on a mountain as a burnt offering, I will tell you.” Start 22 to 1 and 2.

God does not test us to judge us – but to make us grow – and develop us.

Matthew 10 verse 39 – Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. This is the principle of the cross. I give up something to get something much better. GOD restores it in ways we never imagined – but it starts with sacrifice.

Jacob abandons his plans – Joseph abandons his dreams – Moses abandons Pharaoh’s palaces – David abandons his desire to build God’s Temple – Matthew abandons his tax work – Peter abandons his nets – Paul abandons his madness – Mary abandons his son. They all gave something – they all knew something about sacrifice – then, God gives something back.

Can’t we miss the sacrifice part – No! We give up control and God takes control – and God does something.

Romans 12 verse 1 – I beseech you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as living sacrifices holy and acceptable to God – which is your spiritual worship.

2 – “Here I am” – means facing a fear I thought I could never face.

JACOB – He fought with God – his name means ‘shaker’ – but later, God gives him a new name – Israel.

God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said: “Jacob! “Here I am,” he replied. He said: “I am the God of your father.” “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there. I will go down with you to Egypt and I will surely bring you back.” Genesis 46 verses 2 to 4.

This was one place he should never have gone!

What is something I never want to do? Where is the place I never want to go?

3 – “Here I am” – I see a miracle that I thought I would never see otherwise.

Moses – When God saw that he had gone to look, God called him from the desert and said: “Moses! And Moses said: “Here I am.” God said: “Don’t come close yet.” “Put out your horns, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” Exodus 3 verse 4

40 years in Pharaoh’s Palace – 40 years in the desert looking for sheep.

MOSES asks 4 questions – Who am I? Who are you? What about them? How about this? This problem – I have a weakness – struggle?

Remember and consider the miracles that Moses saw over the years.

4 – “Here I am” – I hear a message I never thought I would hear.

Samuel 1 3 verse 4 – Samuel – Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered: “Here I am.” When God speaks to you, He may appear to you like someone else—or to someone else.

God’s voice – God’s call – can disrupt your plans – and hopes – and ambitions.

5 – “Here I Am” – I’m going somewhere I never thought I’d go.

Isaiah 6 verse 8 – Isaiah has this vision – he hears this voice – Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom can I send? Who will go for us?” So I said: “Here, send me!”

We tend to say – “That’s a good question – I’ll consider that question – I’ll give it some time. I’ll consult someone to consult with me about it.”

God doesn’t do that – God doesn’t need to consult – He needs obedient servants.

6 – “Here I am” – I believe a promise I never thought I would believe.

Luke 1 v35, 37 and 38 – Consider Mary.

The angel answered and said: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will take over you.” Therefore, the holy one who will be born will be called the Son of God. Because nothing is impossible with God.” Mary answered: “I am the servant of the Lord.” “Let it happen to me as you said.”

This is the promise of the birth of the virgin – Mary is about 14 or 15 years old – that was made to Joseph. The lyrics are a little different from “Here I Am” – but the feeling is the same.

Some may think that they have been too sinful, and therefore not worthy – others may think that they are failures or have made too many mistakes or have too many shortcomings.

“I’m a failure—I’ve always been a failure—I’ll never be anything—and I’ll never do anything with my life.”

When we say to God “Here I am”, when God calls, it is no longer real.

7 – I serve someone I never thought I could serve.

Acts 9 verses 10 and 11 – Hananiah There was a disciple of Jesus in Damascus whose name was Hananiah. The Lord said to Hanania in a vision: “Hananya!”

Ananias answered: “Behold, Lord.” The Lord said to him: “Get up and go to the Right Street, find the house of Judas and ask for a man named Saul from the city of Tarsus.”

Ananias didn’t know the end of the story then – we do. Ananias is involved right at the beginning of Saul’s Christian life. Ananias had to go and face Saul of Tarsus – and serve Saul of Tarsus. Saul was saved – and Saul was baptized – because Hananiah went and ministered.

8 – I see a joy I never thought I would see – JESUS.

In fact, it is Jesus who sees us – people can say at first that they saw God, or that they saw Jesus – but soon they realize that it is Jesus who has come to see us – and they call us. This is the revival of the resurrection – it has to come to every church – with the Holy Spirit in every life.

Revelation 3 verse 20 is all about Jesus wanting to enter the Church – to be allowed into His Church! “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me.”

I am ready – I am ready to listen – I am ready to serve – I am ready to trust – I am ready to go.

“Here I am” – I am ready to sacrifice – I have the strength and courage to face my fears.

“Here I am” – ready to see miracles – and hear a message I never thought I’d hear – and go and do what I never thought I’d go and do.

“Here I am” – ready to believe the promises of God – and maybe serve someone I thought I would never serve – and enjoy the Joy that is in Jesus Christ, and all the other blessings of GOD to do

January 2021 – “Here I am” – when God calls – when Jesus chooses – because there is a very real need – and He wants you to be part of His plan and purpose.

Answer carefully.
