Casio CTK Review

The Casio CTK-2100 is an affordable keyboard with a 61 piano-style key design. It includes a USB port for general MIDI support. This keyboard is aimed at beginners, with a Step-up learning system that gives instructions on how to play.

Pros:

Lots of features and functions for the price. Includes 150 rhythms, a sampler function, an audio folder function, and the ability to connect a CD or MP3 player via the audio input so you can play along with your favorite song on the keyboard. It has a step-by-step learning system that makes it easy to hear the progress made in your playing skills.

It has hundreds of pre-programmed songs that break down and show you how to play them exactly, note by note. A really great teaching aid.

  • New Sound Pad Function
  • A new 48-note AHL sound source
  • 400 Tons, 150 Rhythms
  • The new StepUp tutorial system
  • Sampling Function, Audio Terminal for mp3-Player

Negatives:

This is a beginner keyboard at a budget price. So the main weight is light. You may hear the buttons click when you press them. You can’t affect the tone by pressing the keys hard or easy – like a real piano or a more expensive keyboard. But that’s not a big deal for most people buying a keyboard in this price range.

  • It becomes difficult to understand the headset (premium package).
  • Stand compatibility can be difficult (premium package).
  • The LCD is not very bright which requires good lighting for viewing.
  • Occasional packaging issues.

The Casio CTK-3000 has a 61 Touch Sensitive Piano Keyboard, with a total of 400 Online Tones, 150 Rhythms and Digital Effects. It has a Step-up Lesson System, audio inputs for an MP3 player, a USB port for MIDI implementation and a baby wheel.

Pros:

Touch sensitive keys make it more like playing a real piano and therefore good value for the price.

  • Tons of tones, rhythms and online effects for the price.
  • Digital reading is easy to find.

Negatives:

  • The keys are light and like any cheap keyboard, can be noisy.
  • Having music on the keyboard isn’t the greatest.
  • Does not come with a/c adapter.

The Casio CTK-4000 is an affordable instrument with a 61 Key Piano Touch Sensitive Keyboard, a total of 570 Online Tones, 180 Rhythms and Reverb plus Chorus Digital Effects. Loaded with great features like Casio’s famous Step-up Lesson System, audio inputs for an MP3 player and a USB port for MIDI.

Features a 61 note Piano-style keyboard, Touch Sensitive keys, 570 voices, 180 rhythms, Reverb and Chorus Digital Effects, built-in USB and audio input for an MP3 player.

Pros:

It doesn’t feel as cheap as some of the cheaper models.

  • High quality digital audio
  • A much fuller, richer and more advanced sound than the lower models (AHL and arpeggiator).
  • Velocity sensitivity or Touch response (note that velocity sensitivity is the speed at which you press the keys, not the pressure you press).
  • 48 note polyphony (24 notes for double tones like Piano Strings)
  • Split function: Split the keyboard anywhere into 2 areas. Supports octave change (1 octave) of each zone.
  • Layer function: layer 2 for rich sound effects. If the split function is active, the layer effect is only in the right area. If using Dual-layer tones, up to 4 instruments can produce sounds simultaneously.
  • Adjustable Reverb (10 levels), Chorus (5 levels), Key Shift (12 Notes), Octave Shift (2 octaves) Tuning (about 100 cents), preset scales (16 scales)
  • Self-Harmonization Function: 12 types, adds additional notes to your playing, active only if auto-harmonizations are enabled.
  • 90 Arpeggiator Patterns: Up, Down, U/A Type A, U/D Type B, Random. Arpeggio Hold function.
  • 305 Music Presets: Based on popular songs, sound(s), rhythm, tempo and other settings are available as keyboard presets. Just select the preset and start playing. Songs include Unlucky Old Men, How Deep Is Your Love, You Almost Killed Me
  • One-Touch Rhythm Presets: Upon selecting a rhythm, activate the Rhythm preset to automatically select the appropriate tempo and tone. It’s very useful if you’re going from Trance (140 bpm) to Slow Jazz (80 bpm) and don’t feel like hitting the tempo button 60 times or hitting multiple keys to change the sound from Synth to Sax.
  • Full Range Chord: In this mode the keyboard recognizes and plays chords if 3 keys are pressed anywhere on the keyboard. Chord selection is no longer limited to the Left field of the keyboard. It is very useful for Indian Harmonium players who usually play melody using chordal formation.
  • Indian Tunes (15) & Rhythms (7 types)
  • Great tutorial features and on-screen help.

Negatives:

  • No weight keys
  • No pitch wheel
  • No saved music settings are saved.

Features a 61 note Piano-style keyboard, Touch Sensitive keys, 670 voices, 200 rhythms, Digital Reverb and Chorus Effects, built-in USB, line outs, a baby wheel for greater articulation and audio input for an MP3 player.

Negative:
